The research fields of the IHS are oriented around the UNESCO conventions for the protection and sustainable use of World Heritage, intangible heritage and cultural diversity, as well as the programme for documentary heritage. They include humanities and social sciences as well as technical and natural sciences. The research is theory and practice oriented and is applied disciplinarily and interdisciplinarily. It is geared towards conceptual and applied research. The main knowledge interest of the IHS is the analysis, application and development of UNESCO positions on culture, development and participation.
