The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK) in cooperation with the Kulturstiftung der Länder, the German Commission for UNESCO, the UNESCO Chair in Heritage Studies of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Association of German Cities held a two day symposium on the 5th and 6th of July in Markkleeberg (near Leipzig) on the sustainable implementation of the World Heritage Convention and the Global Strategy in Germany.
The participation of civil society and all actors involved in World Heritage was crucial, and around 140 participants from the fields of politics, conservation and preservation, skilled crafts, World Heritage sites, civil society as well as science and economics took part in the symposium. The participants drafted recommendations for the implantation of this strategy in six workshops.
